Although Chickpeas in Tomato Sauce may sound like a main dish, it's actually served as a salad in the city of Fes. There, it's known as serrouda, a name commonly used elsewhere for the Chickpea Puree Recipe which I posted last week.
As with other Moroccan recipes which include a tomato sauce, seasoning can be adjusted to make it as zesty as you like. You can achieve that with black pepper only, or cook the tomatoes with the optional spices of paprika and cumin.
