Definition:

Moroccans use the Arabic term beldi to denote something which is traditional, indigenous, or produced domestically or locally. The word is derived from bled, the word for country, territory, land or countryside.

  • djaj beldi - a free range chicken
  • bayd beldi - eggs from a free range chicken
  • meshmash beldi - a small, wild or indigenous apricot
  • zebda beldia - homemade or traditional Moroccan butter
  • citron beldi - indigenous lemons used to make preserved lemons
