Louiza (pronounced "loo-wee-za") is the Moroccan Arabic word for lemon verbena (Aloysia triphylla). In Morocco, verbena is enjoyed for its flavor as well as for it therapeutic properties. Traditionally steeped in tea, hot milk or hot water, it might also be used as part of herbal medicinal blends.
Lemon verbena is useful in easing stress and colic, aiding in digestion, treating colds and fevers, and acting as an expectorant. It's also believed to be useful as a treatment for insomnia and asthma, as well as helpful in regulating the menstrual cycle.
